On March 26, 2001, the George's Creek Library opened its doors.
Located in the city of Lonaconing, Maryland, the library features
architectural reminders of the George's Creek area, including a
reproduction of the Iron Furnace, used in the mid-1800's by the George's
Creek Coal and Iron Company to make iron from coal. The Major
League Baseball Most Valuable Player trophy of former Lonaconing
resident Lefty Grove is also housed in a special
showcase in the library meeting room.
The
George's Creek Library will provide many resources and materials for
it's patrons, such as books for adults, teens, and children, large print books, audio
books, DVDs, video games, music, and periodicals. In addition, the library offers
public computers, free
internet access and regular children's
programs. A meeting
room is available for use during regular hours of operation.
