November 16, 2002 Homeschoolers' Book Discussion Group Announces January ReadPRESS RELEASE - Allegany County Library System Contact: Linda Burkey South Cumberland Library 100 Seymour Street Cumberland, MD 21502
The Homeschoolers’ Book Discussion Group of the Allegany County Library System have chosen Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred Taylor for its January discussion.
At its meeting on Monday, December 9 at 2 PM, the book group will be discussing On the Far Side of the Mountain by Jean Craighead George. 30 years after the release of her Newbery Honor Book My Side of the Mountain, George wrote this sequel, On the Far Side of the Mountain. Our discussion group is excited to have the chance to talk about what has happened to Sam Gribley, the book’s main character, since we discussed him in My Side of the Mountain. Sam had been living inside a large burnt out tree cavity with his wild animal friends for company except for an occasional visitor of the human sorts. By now Sam has been living in the Catskill Mountain tree home for two years; and as the saying goes, ‘all good things must come to an end.’ Though you would never expect it to end the way it does.
The Book Discussion Group meets the 2nd Monday of each month at the South Cumberland Library. Discussions last about one hour and are open to all children ages 7 to 15. Copies of the books are available at your local library.
