The George’s Creek Branch of the Allegany County Library System will host an old fashion campfire on Wednesday, August 27 from 6 to 8:30 PM behind the library in Lonaconing. Everyone’s invited. The evening program will include story telling, skits, campfire songs, a visit from Smokey the Bear, and refreshments. The local Boy Scout troop is helping with all of the campfire arrangements, and the Department of Wildlife will be presenting a program on fire prevention. Coney Pizza will be donating hot dogs for the event. “This event concludes another year of summer fun for kids and adults at libraries throughout the county,” explains Linda Burkey, Coordinator of Community Outreach for the Library System. “Summer may be just about over, but we’re ready with a full slate of activities for fall. September will be a busy month this year, with ‘One Book, One Allegany County’, an exciting new program we are sponsoring with the Cumberland Theatre. Also in September we have our annual Back-to-School Open House taking place Wednesday, September 17 from 4-7; and the Baltimore Zoo’s ZOOmobile will be featuring some programs with their animals at libraries and schools.” |
