                   Cumberland, MD 21502

Effective July 1, 2004, the overdue charge for borrowing certain materials from the Allegany County Library System will be $0.10 per day.   The overdue fine rate will increase to $0.10 per day for books, magazines, and audio recordings in the adult collections.

The Library Board of Trustees approved this revision to the borrowing policies as part of adopting the FY 2005 operating budget for the library system at their June 2004 regular meeting.    Library Director John Taube noted “that the overdue fines have not been increased since the late 1980’s and that the funds are used to purchase new materials for public use.”    Taube continued “overdue fines are charged to encourage prompt returns and they are not charged on days that the library system is closed.”
