The MARYLAND ZOO in Baltimore, formerly known as the Baltimore Zoo, will
return Tuesday, November 9 to branches of the Allegany County Library
System for free educational outreach programs for the public, funded by
Columbia Gas of Maryland.
Zoo staff will be at the South Cumberland Branch Story Hour, starting at
10AM, with “The Big Book Of Animal Tails.” The program allows 3 to 6
year olds to find out what’s so great about having a tail. Singing and
storytelling bring bright, colorful illustrations—as well as new
vocabulary—to life in this fun program all about tails! Meet some tailed
animals up close after the show.
The ZOOmobile will also be at the Frostburg Branch’s Story Hour starting
at 10AM with the program “Barnyard Bonanzoo!—Cluck Cluck, quack quack,
hiss hiss! SQUAWK!!! What’s going on in the barnyard? 3 to 6 year olds
can learn all about farm animals, essential goods they provide, and
their unique importance in this interactive program.
All homeschoolers ages 6 and up are invited to a special performance of
“Living Places, Living Planet” at the South Cumberland Branch from 11:30
to 12:30AM. During this program, students get a chance to learn of some
of the amazing places that animals can live. The interactive
presentation, lets you travel the world to see the many habitats wild
animals call home. The animals help you understand what living things
need to survive. Learn about the global resources animals and humans
must share.
“Living Places, Living Planet” will be repeated at the LaVale Branch
Library after school, from 3:30-4:30PM. All children 6-12 year old are
invited.
Already planned after school groups will also be also be participating
in a program at the Westernport Branch on November 9th.

The Book Discussion Group at the South Cumberland Branch of the Allegany
County Library System will meet Thursday, December 2 at 7 PM to discuss
The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd.
Lily Melissa Owens, the main character of Kidd’s debut novel, may be
only 14, but she’s already done more living than most of us will, and
that’s before she taken in by a zany group of Southern female
beekeepers.
The Book Discussion Group normally meets the 4th Thursday of
each month, but the meeting date has been changed due to Thanksgiving.
Discussions start at 7PM and last for one hour. Everyone’s invited!
Copies of the book are available at your local library.
