South Cumberland Library’s Book Group has
picked My Ántonia by Willa Cather to discuss at their June 23
meeting, starting at 7 PM at the library.
This summer, take a trip by book as Cather,
born in the nearby Winchester, Virginia area, transports you to Red
Cloud, Nebraska. It was there that she spent her childhood with
immigrants from Europe and later grew up to describe her experiences on
the Great Plains so vividly that she won the Pulitzer Prize in 1922.
Visit
http://www.nebraskahistory.org/sites/cather/ and actually see the
buildings where she spent her childhood.
Take your reading experience to a whole
new level by joining a book discussion group. Attend one or all of the
group’s discussions. The group consists of about an equal number of
women and men. Members of the group select which books the group will
discuss, and copies of the books are available at the library.
