All branches of the Allegany County Library System will be making
“Children’s Book Week 2005”, November 14-20, a festive occasion with
children visiting the library during the week having a chance to win a
book.
Each branch will also be giving out special bookmarks throughout the
whole week. There are 5 different bookmarks, each has a list of the ACLS
Children Librarian’s favorite books for 2005 for specific age
appropriate categories: Board Books for Children 0-3 years; Easy Picture
Books; Beginning Readers—I Can Reads® Plus for K-3rd Grade; Chapter
Books for Grades 3-6; and Young Adult Books for Grades 7-12. The theme
for 2005 is “Imagine”. The books on these lists should take children and
teens far beyond anything they can imagine.
The Children’s Book Council out of New
York City has been encouraging the celebrating of “Children’s Book Week”
for over 80 years together with libraries, schools, bookstores, and
individuals across the country. They call it their “celebration of the
written word”. Thru the written word you can have a chance to
experience and learn about the whole world-wide collection of cultures,
places, emotions, basically everything.

The South Cumberland Branch of the Allegany County Library System will
host an Emergent Storytellers’ Practice Session on Tuesday, November 15th
from 7:00-8:30 PM in the library’s meeting room.
“If you’re a beginner storyteller, you’re invited to come share a story
with us, and enjoy the support and encouragement of the group,”
commented Linda Burkey, coordinator for the program. “We ask that all
participants have at least one story to share. It can be from a book or
an original. All ages are welcome. If you work with puppets bring them
along!”
