Magician Mike Rose will present his Mysteries & Magic, an interactive
comedy magic show, to officially kick-off the Allegany County Library
System’s Clue into Reading Summer Reading Club on Saturday, June 24.
Three performances will be held at different branches across the county:
Georges Creek Regional Library at 11:00 am, LaVale Library at 1:00 pm,
and Washington Street Library at 3:00 pm.
Mike Rose has performed his comedy magic programs in over 25 states and
Canada. This all new show designed specifically for Maryland libraries
features interactive comedy magic, quick wit, off the wall mind reading
stunts, and amazing sleight of hand. All of the magic performed will
incorporate fun (and often hilarious!) mystery
bits to compliment the library’s Summer Reading theme, “Mysteries, Clue
into Reading.” The audience will experience all of this first hand and
many children will even get to become part of the show!
In addition to libraries and schools, Mike Rose performed at the
Presidential Inaugural (2004) and at the Vice Presidential Mansion for
former Vice President and Mrs. Gore on several occasions, not to mention
performances at Dinner Theaters, Comedy Clubs, Festivals, and Corporate
Events.
Mike’s off the wall comedy magic has also been a mainstay at the
Maryland Renaissance Festival each fall for more than 15 years. In
addition to Maryland, he has also entertained at half a dozen other
Renaissance Festivals around the country as “The Magic Kinda Guy.”
Mike Rose is a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians, the
Society of American Magicians, The Magic Circle of London, and the Magic
Collectors’ Association. Additionally, Mike is a noted magic historian
and has authored articles for magic trade journals and a book, Joe
Karson - Beyond Zombie, a biography of one of the most creative
magical inventors and performers of the first half of the Twentieth
Century.

The South Cumberland Library’s Book Discussion Group will meet Thursday,
June 22 at 7PM to discuss Ray Bradbury’s classic summer read:
Dandelion Wine.
Some actors and writers get typecast to a specific role they can play or
type of book they can write; this has maybe happened to Bradbury and one
of his masterpieces, that is not fantasy. If anything, the book goes to
the opposite extreme, to have you re-experience the summers of your
youth. Bradbury has combined all the essence from the summers of his
youth to produce one magical summer, 1928, for a 12 year old,
Mid-western boy named Douglas Spaulding, the main character of the book.
Take your reading experience to a whole new level by joining a book
discussion group. Attend one or all of our group’s discussions. The
library’s group consists of a balanced number of women and men. Members
of the group select which books the group will discuss. The group meets
the 4th Thursday of each month.

Moody Declares Independence by Megan McDonald to discuss at their
meeting on July 13 starting at 7PM. All children are invited to come

In this month’s selection, Judy Moody has learned all about how our
country declared independence in 1776; but when she decides to declare
independence, the results are …?
The Kool Reader’s Club is held the second Thursday of each month at 7PM,
following Evening Story Time. Meetings consist of a half hour of
discussion and reading activities for 3rd, 4th and
5th graders. The group will be discussing the hilarious
Guy Wire by Sarah Weeks for August 10.
