Middle School Book Discussion at the LaVale Library

PRESS RELEASE - Allegany County Library System

Contact:  Pam Neder

                   LaVale Library

                   815 National Highway

                   LaVale, MD 21502

The Middle School Book Discussion Group at the LaVale Library will meet on Thursday, July 27 at 6PM to discuss Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery. Copies of the book are available at the library. Pre-registration is required for this one hour program; call 301-729-0855.

This timeless classic just might help readers cultivate their own imagination, following in Anne’s footsteps.  It’s a rough time early on for this main character of the book, but being mistakenly adopted to a brother-sister couple on Prince Edward Island leads to a life full of possibilities, and Anne is just the one to make the most of the situation.

Teen Photo Contest during August at Libraries

PRESS RELEASE - Allegany County Library System

Contact:  Linda Burkey

                   South Cumberland Library

                   100 Seymour Street

                   Cumberland, MD 21502

During the month of August, the Allegany County Library System will host a Teen Photo Contest. Teens ages 13-17 are invited to submit their original photographs that show what it is like to be a teenager today. Multiple winners will be chosen to have their photographs made into bookmarks for the public, especially teens.

The LaVale Library and George’s Creek Regional Library will be displaying the photos as they are received to help get your creative juices flowing!

“This is a great opportunity to see their photography work in print,” commented Linda Burkey, Coordinator of Community Outreach. “Plus it will really be helping the library. Commercially produced bookmarks are quite expensive.”

With each photo, please submit a copy of the entry form, a signed photographer release form, and a photography consent form from every person shown in the photograph. Release forms and entry forms are available at your library and online.

Photos can be any size, color or black & white, or digital. Entries must be submitted on or before August 31, at any library branch or e-mailed to rmason@allconet.org
